Lineup Trends for Atlético Mineiro & Search for Sorare Value

This post will share some of the research I've done on the Brazilian soccer/football team Atlético Mineiro (aka Atlético MG or Atlético) and try to anticipate players whose cards may be undervalued on Sorare. As of this writing, Atlético Mineiro is the only Brazilian team licensed on the platform.

I'd never heard of the team prior to Sorare but I purchased on of the player's cards after some brief research to help me field some teams while the other summer leagues went on international break. As I've started to follow they've gone on an impressive run. They are 13-2-5 in their last 20 games, despite playing every midweek and having multiple players away on international duty & out with COVID.

I haven't seen much if any coverage of the team in English, so with a bit of digging and a lot of Google Translate, I've started reading up on their lineup changes and even tracking it in spreadsheet form.

It's a few weeks before I begin w/ lineups in my spreadsheet, but let's take a look at this game from May 4. I believe this to be the preferred starting 11 at the time:

In late May, Keno suffered a thigh injury and was replaced by Marrony, however the other 10 starters remained the same in games on 5/25 & 5/30.

Then, in June, international duty calls and chaos hits. A bit further into June and COVID further complicates things (credit to Rotowire's team pages for the idea of capturing lineup trends this way):

Here's the Google Sheet if you'd like to sort/create a copy. So we've got a team in pretty solid form. All of the players from that May lineup I posted above are quite expensive, but events have shaken things up quite a bit. Is anyone worth acquiring, either as a short-term fill-in or long-term asset?

Potential Value Pickups

Hyoran- The first name on my list is also the player I acquired in early June. He's started the last 7 games (1 goal, 2 assists) and seems to be the biggest beneficiary of Jefferson Savarino being away with the Venezuelan national team. Hyoran also went on a very good run in January (below is his YTD SO5) so we know he's capable of putting up big scores:

Venezuela currently sits just inside the qualification for the Copa America Playoffs. I'd project them to play a 1st round game on July 3 but get knocked out. So that gives you at least 2 more games of Hyoran before Savarino returns. His current price is .044, which is probably fair given he's at risk to be knocked out of the starting 11, but if Hyoran is able to maintain a spot by displacing Keno (fans seem fairly divided on this) then he's a huge bargain.

Réver- As stand in for Junior Alonso (Paraguay national Team), Réver's been posting great scores lately & has a track record of doing so when he plays. His age (36) is what initially put me off. Add to that his current price (lowest available is .070) and he's a no-go for me. That said, he should have a starting spot for a similar timeframe as Hyoran, with the potential for 1-3 more games on top of that should Paraguay make a run to the Copa America playoffs, and he's been posting some really solid SO5 scores.

Gabriel- Along with Réver, Gabriel is the other back-up center back. He should get his 4th straight start tonight with Igor Rabello out with COVID. But I wouldn't expect Rabello to be out too much longer so I don't think you can get much utility out of this purchase barring an injury of another CB.

Dodô- Dodô filled in at left-back while Guilherme Arana was away with the Brazil national team. The play here is that Arana will be leaving for the Olympics on 7/8 and could be away until 8/8 if Brazil make the final so that could give Dodô up to 8 starts at right back over that period. We don't have a ton of data points for his SO5 scores and he's currently out with a thigh injury. But assuming he recovers by early July and if you can grab him for cheap he could be a solid pickup.

Jair - He's started the last 4 but prior to that had only 1 start in 7 games. In midfield, with manager Cuca continuing to move players around and change formations, it's much harder to see like-for-like replacements, so we can't point to 1 specific player whose return would bump Jair out. However, when the team returns to full strength I do imagine he is back to being a substitute defensive midfielder behind Tchê Tchê and Allan.

Atlético Mineiro Follow-Up

A quick follow-up after my post on Atlético Mineiro trying to find value options on the  Sorare  platform. I hope I haven't jinxed them! After talking about what good form they've been in, they've gone on to lose 2 straight, scoring only 1 goal in the process. Certainly the lack of some key pieces and incessant schedule have to be playing a role and so I don't think fans need to panic just yet. But on to the team news and assessment of assets: Igor Rabello  - He returned to the bench as an unused sub in Sunday's match. That means Gabriel's time as a starting center-back is likely to be over quite soon, although it's possible Réver make's way instead. Rabello's price has dropped and recent auctions are going for about .08 ETH. I'm tempted to try and snag one as I think he'd be a solid buy & hold or a flip opportunity. Jefferson Savarino - Venezuela was eliminated from Copa America and should return to play with Atlético shortly, even as ...

List of Side Income Sources

In my last post at the beginning of April, I mentioned a few of the ways I’ve been making extra cash online. Since then, I’ve had more time to research, explore, and test out different options. I also understand that different people are looking for different things, so what I find to be the most beneficial may not apply to you. It really does seem that the options are limitless, and in this post I hope to provide a more varied and comprehensive list. Because these types of things are frequently changing and new opportunities popping up, I plan to use this post as sort of a “home base” for everything I’m utilizing.  I will also try and categorize the methods as best I can. Leave a comment below, fill out the contact form in the upper right, or drop me a line on twitter if you have questions, comments, or would like an invite to one of the apps/programs that require a unique code. This list was list updated on June 25, 2016. Like Venmo, But Better Circle App – S...

Grinding out a few extra bucks

One of the great things about the internet is it's provided a multitude of new opportunities for making money. If you're like me then you've come across plenty of blogs and articles describing "side hustles" or  ways to earn "side income". Unfortunately, I imagine many people have a glamorized view of how lucrative these ventures can be. Usually, I've also found that many of these sources have contributed to this glamorization- they simply want to drive traffic to their website, and if they make it sound easy and/or lucrative then people are much more likely to look into it. I'm hoping to take a slightly different approach. While I'd be lying if I said I'm not at least partially motivated by getting a few referrals from this post, I hope I can also present a more realistic view of what to expect. I also hope to help inform you about what might work best in your situation by talking about the good & the bad from my personal experienc...
